peppermintesse: (Rock on!)
About 5 months ago I got a Sonicare toothbrush. In my last appointment in October, the dental hygienist noted that I had "moderate" amounts of calculus (...still imagining mathematics. Snerk. I am a nerd.).

My dental cleanings are usually a nightmare, and they always end up doing intense scraping, and oftentimes scaling. (Oddly enough, because I've cut so much sugar out of my diet, my mouth pH is basic (as opposed to acidic, not simple), which allows calcium deposits to thrive.)

Anyway, today she was done with the cleaning inside 30 minutes! Very little to pick off. And the hygienist kept saying, "Excellent, excellent, excellent" over and over again. Even the dentist herself was thrilled! (However, my jaw is still a bit sore. Better than usual though!)

So. The Sonicare made a HUGE difference, and she even said I was using it (mostly) correctly. My teeth and gums are healthier, my time in the dental chair was much less like a session with the Grand Inquisitor, and I don't have the screaming muscular headache I usually have from having to open wide and sustain it. WOO HOO! \o/

(No cavities, either! Even better!)
peppermintesse: (jedi moment)
Had a dental appointment today at 4pm... and of course the later in the day your appointment is, the greater chance there is you'll get in there late. I did -- about 20 minutes late -- and it always takes forever and a day (this time 45 minutes) to get the calculus* off of my teeth. But the hygienist was new to the office and OMG, I ♥ her. Thirty-four years of experience sure does show. She gave me all kinds of excellent advice (Stimu-dents! Sonicare toothbrush!), and I didn't walk out of there feeling like I had unhinged my jaw. I actually feel fine! (Though I have another cavity. Grar. I hate that the insurance won't cover preventative sealant, but will cover fillings.)

I had to walk all the way home because the stupid buses were running the "not as frequently" after 6 schedule, so I could have waited around for 20 minutes for the bus, or be home in 20 minutes. I had started feeling hungry at about 3:45pm, was ravenous by the time I got home. And walked umpty-ump blocks with a full bladder. :P

Feeling much more human now.

(* = I cannot help but think of little math symbols when I hear or say this.)
