Not a particularly eventful weekend, aside from the Asian Celebration. Watched Stepford Wives (the newer, Nicole Kidman one) and was pleasantly surprised, though I never could quite figure out if they were supposed to be robots or just implanted people. I really loved the character of Roger, who I ID'ed right away as the same actor who played Carmen Ghia from the newer movie version of The Producers.

Um. I'm sure I was going to say something else, but I'll be damned if I can remember it.

They never made that very clear -- I would assume that the wives are cyborgs at the very least, considering that one of them can dispense cash from her mouth and Bette was able to set her hand on fire without much damage (there are deleted scenes from that section that make it VERY clear she's got some artificial parts goin' on there). I'm guessing the producers lifted that from the original, then decided to go with the happy ending and never really explained all the extra bits.

Cyborg... that's the word I was looking for.

I am familiar with the story but apparently not the original ending. Take it it wasn't happy?

Maybe I'll go back and watch the deleted scenes for giggles.

Nope -- remember the shot in the Kidman version where she's been just cyborged and is wandering around the supermarket looking beautiful and vapid? That's where the original movie ended, only it made for a much creepier scene because in the first version, they really were robot duplicates and the human originals were strangled.
