After a crappy night sleep, I saw [livejournal.com profile] grian_ruadh and [livejournal.com profile] janabard off to their ride to Portland to see Wicked, so I have a day to myself. I'm torn between doing unpacky type things and take-it-easy type things. I think I'm going to strike a happy medium and only do some laundry, some dishes (YAY DISHWASHER) and maybe put the rest of the bathroom stuff away.

Thinking about going down and exploring Flicks & Pics, which is the local indie video rental place. For some reason the thought of going in there has always intimidated me a bit. I have no idea why. But what better day to try to find some of the more obscure things I've been wanting to watch (i.e. the original Fever Pitch) without worrying about whether others are watching just to humour me. Then again, my desire to actually drive somewhere is pretty damned low, so we'll see.

On a related note, watched Enchanted April, which I had taped off of Showtime circa 1994 (according to the tape itself). Why isn't this movie out on DVD*, I ask you?! This tape is not going to last forever.

[* There is a DVD available in Australia, which is PAL/non-US region format and does me absolutely NO GOOD.]

If it's a DVD, it's probably not so much that it's PAL as that it's Region 4 (or whatever region it is down there); the PAL/NTSC thing doesn't apply to DVDs as far as I know. If that's the case, you can probably get a "multi-region" DVD player that'll play it for not too much; certainly they're extremely common over here in Europe, probably because many people import DVDs from North America. We bought such a DVD player in Britain for about 20 pounds, for example.

Although who knows, things may be different in the US, of course, especially since things generally seem to be released sooner over there so there's probably less need to import.

We did 'crack' our DVD player so that it's now a multi-region player, but I'm still skeptical re: PAL/NTSC. I'd hate to buy the thing and be stuck with a very spendy coaster. :)
