Well, after The Great Crash of 2005, in which I lost, oh, just about everything, imagine my horror when I went to open Mail, after copying files from one ~/Library/Mail folder to another, only to see Mail crash in exactly the same way it did before. So I renamed Mail to Mail.old, reloaded the program, and thank the gods above that it worked just fine. I've lost all my Rules but hey, it's working again.

My backups were mostly okay, but spotty copying back to hard drive, so I've got a list of MP3s I have to dig up elsewhere. I found them all the last time I had to restore my music files, so I'm pretty confident I can do it again. When I think of all of the songs I sucked in from my CDs since July, argh, I could just scream. But at least I can do it again.

However, If anyone has a copy of Rilo Kiley's "The Frug", I would appreciate it.

I got Xjournal installed, I got Safari up and running again, and Mail's not crashing any more. But the rest of the apps are going to have to wait for another day.

*clings*

My shiny powerbook G4 started crashing its mail this morning. After getting the latest security update from Apple and running Norton's LiveUpdate and starting a full system scan, Istarted poking around on LJ while I waited it to finish... the next step in my brain was to do some sort of disk check for bad sectors... I didn't even think about the recent Java update, but I'm now convinced it was the culprit.

Thank you for posting about your experiences here... because of your posts I went looking around in the Mac forums and saw a suggestion to restart the computer, then open a mailto link from my browser to launch Mail, and then to delete the image-containing message which was my last-viwed message pre-crashes, and then to exit mail. I did that and then restarted Mail from the dashboard icon.

Holy crap, Mail doesn't crash now. So far, anyway!

I'm using Firefox primarily and have been too chicken to even see if Safari has any problems.

My gosh, I'm so sorry you had to go through everything you have with this, but thank you so much for talking about it. I feel like such a newbie with these apps and OS!

I'm glad my evil situation helped you to avoid it being one for you. I posted all over the Apple support forum about this problem, as well. You might have seen my name. :)

I hope everything stays hunky-dory for ya.

(Dock, not Dashboard, I think :) )
