The most dramatic thunderstorm in recent memory passed over us last night, with bright bright flashes and resounding thunder. Unfortunately, it was also 4:30 in the morning, and I could not sleep through it. It was kind of cool to visualize the storm moving overhead, based on the pause between the lightning and the thunder, and for a short while there was no pause at all. The rain pelted the side windows so hard at one point, it sounded like there was running water in the bedroom. The power went out long enough to leave every digital timepiece blinking except for our main alarm clock, bless its battery-backed-up heart.
Today everyone seems a little discombobulated and the magnificent nighttime storm is what everyone is talking about. Thunderstorms don't scare me really, except for the startle factor of a sudden loud noise, even when I know it's coming. No, I was annoyed more than anything else. I cherish my precious weeknight sleep.
Today calls for a second cup of coffee.
