Was watching "Brainman" on The Best of Science Channel last night, which is airing on The Discovery Channel this week. It was about a man with an amazing talent for numbers; he once calculated pi to 22,000 decimal points in his head and learned to speak Icelandic in a week. He sees the numbers visually. It was utterly astounding.
Anyway, I had a weird Collision of Spheres™ last night when I realized that the host of this series this week was Dan Duran, who was for the longest time the announcer on the CFNY (Toronto) morning show -- which I listened to in high school and college. All I can remember is the goofy "I Slept With Dan Duran" fake commercials they used to do....
They're actually showing the Oscars live as opposed to stupid tape delay, which means it's starting at 5pm Pacific. It will be kind of nice to watch it over dinner, and not have to stay up extra late. (Frankly, I'm mostly interested because it's JON STEWART.)
