TV Meme, Day 15

Day 15 - Favourite female character

This one, I think, is much harder than male, mostly because while I very much liked the characters of Dr. Crusher, Dana Scully, and so on, I can't honestly say I feel that fangirly 'oh yes, this is absolutely the best female character I have ever seen on TV' feeling.

Obviously I quite adore Dr. Crusher from TNG, and she probably comes the closest in terms of the character I liked the best for the longest amount of time. Her backstory was so incredibly interesting--falling in love with a man whose superior officer was secretly in love with her, I mean, how Greek Tragedy is that?--and it was so disappointing when they failed to flesh that out. Unfortunately she suffered from being a stereotypical female character in science fiction shows before a certain time: the nurturer/carer. This isn't so much the case anymore, because too many people have just plain noticed. (Troi was the same--the counselor, FFS--and the other predominant female on TNG, Tasha Yar, who is head of security and not a nurturer... well, she got killed by a lava monster in a fairly otherwise unremarkable episode. I know that had more to do with Denise Crosby wanting to leave the show, but...).

Maybe I'm just overthinking things.

For me, Delenn. A so rare example of a fully dimensional female character entirely in her own right, not simply an accessory or addendum to the men. Her love interest had to enter her world as much as she entered his. Strong, compassionate, wise, fierce... a character I would actually consider a role model, come to think of it!

Ohh, great point, and great character. I feel like my mind can't wrap around the entirety of my television experience in order to remember everything. :P
