Coraline

If you're planning on seeing this on the big screen, try to catch the 3D showing. It was more than I expected to pay for what I thought was going to be a matinee, but it ended up being well worth the price. Visually impressive, haunting, spooky, dark, beautiful, and compelling, and the 3D made it quite the experience. Also, I want the gorgeous soundtrack. (Surprise (to me) appearance by TMBG, too.)

Definitely recommend this movie. (I would probably not bring very small children, though.)

ETA: Oh yes! Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders as the voices of the actresses with the Scottie dogs... BRILLIANT CASTING. (And John "I'm a PC" Hodgman as Coraline's father.)

He's not just a PC; he's also a neurosurgeon in space.

I only knew this because you told me. :) I have a lot of BSG to catch up on. Like... pretty much all of it.

I so fail at being a movie buff 'cause I've never even heard of this movie...

I knew the name from the book (which I had seen in Borders but haven't read), but had seen the trailer on TV and was intrigued by the animation since I love The Nightmare Before Christmas and all.

This movie made me so happy!

By the way Neil Gaiman wrote the childrens book the movie is based on and as I said before I am a huge fan girl.

Yup! I've wanted to read it for some time.

By the by, I hadn't read Coraline yet, and just did. Now if only I had time to go and see it...

Thanks!

It's Gaiman's classically creepy dry wit, plus McKean's classically creepy drawings. I like. :)
