peppermintesse: (Misplaced my brain)
So when I got to work today, I had absolutely no internet connectivity whatsoever. Which would Not Do At All. So I closed my eyes, and meditated back to my techie days...

...and then it came to me: delete EVERYTHING out of the Temp folder and the Temporary Internet Files folder.

I did. And it worked.

Go me.

I have a cel / mobile at last. It is forest green. It is not fancy but I like it lots. And our total bill is only going up $15. Yay! Now I have to figure out how to use it.

And via [livejournal.com profile] grian_ruadh: The Picard Song. It is extremely giggle-worthy: someone has made/found a techno song with Picard sound bytes and animated Sims TNG figures to it. It's all kinds of wrong to see Picard dancing like that. (Why oh why did they make Beverly BLONDE?? She's blonde in one movie...)

I got the printer to print from my Mac through the Windows computer. No more switching the USB cable back and forth. Go me!

This was inspired by a session yesterday with Avery, the Mac Guru Extraordinaire. He showed me how to get to the underside memory on an older iMac, helped us to get the same iMac to print. He even made me a crossover ethernet cable. He kicks ass.

The Solar Death Ray, which is probably something everyone else has already seen because it appeared on SlashDot. Why does it not surprise me this person (male? female? I'm guessing male based on the "Girlfriend Quest" page) was inspired by this site?

Went digging up this gem of a site from almost ten — ten! — years ago: Scott's Page of Evil. Because it's hosted on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, none of the pictures will load, so when you link there, just immediately hit stop on the browser. *snerks at the reference to Netscape 1.1*

Craving chocolate. Just sayin'.

As [livejournal.com profile] jidabug sez: Three more sleeps 'til Duran Duran! Hee!

Last night, I hooked [livejournal.com profile] cerulean_fleur's computer to mine via a Firewire cable and Disk Doctored her drive as if it were an external hard drive. Whee! I love experimenting like that and making it work.

I used Retrospect to back up the entire iBook volume and then restored its contents to this here hard drive. And when I rebooted, this computer is now magically exactly the same as the iBook was.

I am in heaven. 1280 x 864 pixels of glorious desktop, 51.97 G of free space.

I should finish typing in my notes from training class, but damn, my head is suddenly killing me. Probably because I stayed up too long… typing in notes from training class. (Yawn.)
peppermintesse: (Squee!)
It's BEAUTIFUL... Now to back this computer up and put it over there. (Times like this I wish I could just c/p.)
